- beervirus 6y agoReddit, like all online forums, will die by growing too large. The root cause is that they took too much VC money and/or they've gotten greedy. The solution is bankruptcy, and a new site that 99% of redditors aren't aware of yet.
- elastolin 6y agoWhich site?
- beervirus 6y agoMaybe one that doesn't even exist yet.
- mariusor 6y agoI'm building something that could help in this regard: https://github.com/mariusor/go-littr https://github.com/mariusor/go-littr It's a distillation of the early reddit into a discussion platform that speaks activitypub. This means that the goal is not to have "one site" to rule them all, but that communities can each create their own and then interact with others if they chose to. An demo instance is at https://littr.me https://littr.me
- oarsinsync 6y ago> Reddit, like all companies, needs to grow or die. I disagree with the base premise. Not all companies need growth in order to survive, or to thrive. Companies seeking highly speculative investment are not all companies. I don't think they're even the majority of companies.
- minikites 6y ago>Not all companies need growth in order to survive, or to thrive. If your company isn't growing but the market is, your company is shrinking. If your company isn't growing and the market isn't growing, how long will that market last? How many markets are stable over decades?
- oarsinsync 6y ago> If your company isn't growing but the market is, your company is shrinking. Shrinking relative to the addressable market.
- minikites 6y agoOkay? I don't see how that changes what I said.
- yellow_lead 6y agoI suspect they're trying to grow too fast, and in the process, they're going to lose current users.
