Show HN: A block-based note editor like Roam Research
- alexf95 6y agoRecently read a lot about these "Roam Research" like apps. What makes yours differ from the likes of Obsidian, Roam and such?
- djyde 6y agoHi. It's a good question. For now, I just want to build a Roam for myself to save $15/month. The main different with Roam is I want my app saves data on local, instead of on the cloud. Obsidian is a good alternative for this, but Obsidian is not block-based, I can't achieve something like block level reference. It's an important feature for me. The link I post here is not a note app, it is an editor libaray. I use this library to build my note app. I think I can open source the editor core so that the other one can build their own block-based note app.
- djyde 6y agoFor the note app, I open source it few days ago (https://github.com/djyde/plastic https://github.com/djyde/plastic) but it's not production ready. But if anyone is interested, you can download the app from the `release` and have a try. The main idea is I save the whole note in a json file. I designed a schema to save these bi-directional notes. The benefit of "just a json file" is everyone can develop their own application around this schema (Something like "an open standard schema for block-based note"). For example if I want to build a mobile app for it, I just need to make an app that read and write the json file.
