I was going to say something similar. I'm convinced that it's possible to build a better search engine than Google by using community-influenced results, rather than try to do magic. I'd definitely pay for a search engine where we can collectively downvote to hell any SEO spam. That would be the only way to incentivize sites to provide actual quality rather than cheating the algorithms.
