SvarDOS – an open-source DOS distribution
- tssva 6y agoI noticed that one of the project goals is to support PCs which use the 8086 or 8088 class cpus, but there doesn't seem to be 360KB installation media available which is the floppy size many of these machines would support.
- IntelMiner 6y agoHow does it compare to FreeDOS? FreeDOS has been around since the 90's if I remember correctly
- dimitar 6y agoLooks like SvarDOS is the freedos kernel + a package manager and repository. The Freedos OS is more featured traditional distribution, that includes things like a browser, media player, various tools like archivers and drivers for printing graphics.
- LocalH 6y agoThe title (though matching the original page) is a bit of a misnomer, the way I read it. I interpreted it as a competitor to FreeDOS, rather than FreeDOS with an open-source package manager on top. Perhaps "SvarDOS - an open-source package manager for FreeDOS"? Or simply "SvarDOS - an open source FreeDOS distro"?
