Hacker rewrote complex backend with Postgres and cron, CEO fired 40% of devs
- db48x 6y agoScary.
- maxrev17 6y agoUnreal what you can achieve with PG power!
- samokhvalov 6y agoDisclaimer: I've posted it here – but honestly, now I'm trying to find any info about that startup and cannot find it. It's the first time I'm having some doubts if a news about Postgres is true. Would be good to have some sort of labels/tags "unverified" for such news. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.
- zaik 6y agoCheck the domain name of the website.
- rawtxapp 6y agoI think you fell for satire. Another one of their articles: https://www.theolognion.com/programmer-invents-non-moving-car-claims-premature-optimization-is-the-root-of-all-evil/ https://www.theolognion.com/programmer-invents-non-moving-ca... Pretty good satire too I must say.
- samokhvalov 6y agoObviously I did
- flukus 6y agoIt might be satire, but it hits way to close to the mark. I've worked on so many simple applications with layers and layers of cruft that really could be simplified to postgres, cron and a couple of cgi scripts.
- etrautmann 6y agoThe next article is “expert says IoT devices safe because they barely work anyway” https://www.theolognion.com/expert-says-iot-and-smart-home-devices-are-very-safe-because-they-barely-work-anyway/ https://www.theolognion.com/expert-says-iot-and-smart-home-d...
- geoah 6y ago“The olognion” is a satirical tech news site. Basically a more tech oriented “the onion”. Some of their articles are really fun. Check out their about page and patreon as well.
- samokhvalov 6y agoThanks. Decided to hide it here. On one hand, it would be good and funny to be on the 1st page with this (obviously, it was rising fast). On another – who knows, how many people (I guess, non Enslish speakers) might do the same mistake as I did :)
