I suppose I'm becoming old and grumpy but I'm with the one guy who "requested changes". Go outside. What a waste of people's time just because you can't read two words without thinking about a video game.
- notJim 6y agoEh, they did the work to change it, the diff is pretty inconsequential and it seems like enough people empathize/sympathize.
- smoldesu 6y agoThis is a form of "programmer humor", something you're probably familiar with if you're a grumpy old programmer. I think it's a good sign that a new generation of devs also have a decent sense of humor, but I guess it's all subjective.
- corndoge 6y agoIt is a joke
- kwdc 6y agoCareful! The bots don't understand humor. Might need a captcha in front.
- ASalazarMX 6y agoThis game became a feature of this lockdown, it's understandable if you don't appreciate the humor, which isn't good to start with. I would have left it there, though, as a token of these times. Edit: checked the history, the text was there 4 years ago, while Among Us is from 2018, so this wasn't a reference, just a coincidence.
- tester756 6y agoWell, when not that long time ago somebody decided for us that we have to/should use main instead of master, then this argument wasn't accepted >What a waste of people's time just because you can't read two words without thinking about a :).
- Ar-Curunir 6y ago“among us” doesn’t evoke a context of terrible crimes against millions of people
- salawat 6y agoNeither does "master" in reference to content versioning or electronics. Not that that stopped anyone from getting huffy about it.
- Ar-Curunir 6y agoer master combined with slave sure does, and that's the origin in tech.
- tester756 6y agoI think it's ok to remind that this problem probably had no place in non-native english speakers minds. Using "master/slave" didn't create any connections to crimes 'n' similar - those were completely neutral terms until this show started.
- Ar-Curunir 6y agoEr because slavery is a fine practice outside the antebellum south? Are you seriously arguing that other kinds of slavery are not problematic?
- salawat 6y agoOrigin in tech is electronics. Master/slave has seen quite a good history of use due to the relationship the master switch has to downstream elements. It's state, determines the state of those that follow. Downstream elements are 'slaved' to the "master's" state, which is a valid, ahistorical description that's been around since my grandparent's time at least. The fact there are folks who can't seperate their own discomfort with certain aspects of American history from technical contexts is not the fields' or practitioners problem.
- 0x003 6y agoSome people are allergic to humor ;)
- vsareto 6y agoThere's a little bit of humerus inside of every among us guy
- notapenny 6y agoOk, I concede. I was being a grouch yesterday :D
