"The service will, eventually, be available as a paid option..."
This is the future of services on the internet. The 'cult of free' should die off as people realize they don't want to be bought and sold like digital cattle.
- fullstop 6y agoI wonder if payment in BAT will be an option?
- elwell 6y agoProbably, but you'll probably have to KYC as well...
- mozey 6y ago> payment in BAT payment in Basic Attention Token... isn't that exactly how the Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc advertising business models work. BAT is basically a reward for watching adds right? I like the idea of paying my content producers directly better, see for example https://coil.com https://coil.com. Cut out the middleman
- fullstop 6y agoIt's an optional reward, and that is the key difference in my opinion.
- pier25 6y agoThe SaaS project I'm working on won't have a free tier. We think it's unfair to make paying customers support free customers.
- ketamine__ 6y agoDoes the customer on the $40 plan think it unfair he pays for more resources than the customer on the $20 plan?
- pier25 6y agoThat's different, they're both paying.
- ketamine__ 6y agoAs a paying customer I don't care about customers on the free plan. I don't think anyone has time to consider such things.
- pier25 6y agoWouldn't you prefer to pay less?
- ketamine__ 6y agoIf you're setting prices based on cost shouldn't the prices be astronomically higher during the first few years of the business?
- pier25 6y agoIrrelevant. You're changing the subject.
- jay_kyburz 6y agoAs long as your crusade against free doesn't impact our free public libraries, free healthcare, free education. (All of which are not really free because we pay for them with taxes. )
- imwillofficial 6y agoI have been developing a simple mantra: Pay for stuff I use. Mostly software so far. As far as “free stuff” provided by the government, I feel there is a baseline that a government should provide, as that should be their purpose. Where that line is, and what services are provided is a source of intense debate. “Pay for stuff I use” is a great starting point, but hardly a hard and fast rule.
