Rather than trying to encourage people to substitute the ingredients in their meals, I wish we'd encourage more healthy habits and work life balance.
So many people are either pressed for time or incapable of preparing a decent meal. If they aren't ordering takeout, they're falling back on boxed or prepared options.
Simply substituting fake meat for real meat isn't improving anyone's lives.
- arduinomancer 6y agoYou don’t think less factory-farming is a good thing?
- cptskippy 6y agoThis doesn't reduce factory farming it, it just changes it.
- doublerabbit 6y agoDoesn't change a thing. KFC,McD don't give a rats-arse about anything other than money. They will still murder and inhumanely treat animals.
- eatwater123 6y agoImproving cow's lives though :)
- cptskippy 6y agoIf the demand for beef plummeted over night, they wouldn't release the cows into a field to live out the remainder of their lives. At best a drop in demand will reduce the population size of future generations of cows. It doesn't fundamentally change how they'll be raised or treated.

- barbs 6y agoCan't we do both?
- cptskippy 6y agoProbably not. Big business is interested in extracting the maximum amount of profit. They have no interest in doing anything that might jeopardize profits. Reducing production of subsidized crops, focusing on nutritional density and sustainable farming, and other goals only cut into profits. We're seeing rising prices for food but the quality is in decline. Even if nutritious food was available to everyone, people are over worked, and have to little time or energy to prepare nutritious meals. They're opting for the fast/easy option every time.
- notyourwork 6y ago>Simply substituting fake meat for real meat isn't improving anyone's lives. Is the goal improving lives or solving a supply chain problem in a scalable fashion?
- cptskippy 6y agoI believe it's being sold as the former to customers and the later to businesses. This is just furthering our race to the bottom while we pat ourselves on the back and say we're the best.
- hahahahe 6y agoI agree 100%. We need to eat more natural food. Farm our own. In that sense, I think ag tech will be a big disrupter in the next decade.
- guerrilla 6y ago> Simply substituting fake meat for real meat isn't improving anyone's lives. This seems like a really impractical position. I'd rather we succeed than fantasize.
