Oura for Business: Track your employee's health
Just found out that Oura (a company that produces a smart ring to track key health indicators) launched a business solution that lets employers track their team's health.

I've been a huge fan of Oura and own a ring myself. The ring tracks very private data such as activity, resting heart rate, HRV and more. I love using it personally but would not want anyone to know about my data.
This move feels Brave-New-World-ish where your manager will point out to you that you've been drinking this weekend and haven't exercised enough in the past month (just look at the screenshots on the landing page).
Would love to discuss the pro's/con's of this as I'm starting to feel like I gave money to the wrong company.
- verdverm 6y agoWould never do this for an employer. They would see me make an exit super fast. If they offer it as optional "with incentives" tied to it, I'd leave as well. We def need to push back against the Orwellian trends
- nathanganser 6y agoWhat about the other side, as a customer. Would you rather fly on a plane where the pilot has such a ring and therefore guarantees that he's in good shape to fly?
- verdverm 6y agoHow often do planes crash? Am I still more likely to die driving my own car? I'd prefer to avoid the orwellian trends, always, even if it means more risk or less optimization Life would seem boring if everything was algorithmic and largely rule decided If a boss feels the need to track at this level, there are deeper problems than the one they are trying to monitor. If everyone knows everything they do is tracked, we will lose our humanity. That is not a future that is exciting Be more human and treat others like humans You can't stop all bad things from happening, accept the realities of life, and stop the over analytics of it all If everyone knows everything they do is tracked, we will lose our humanity. That sounds like an undesirable future
- ravenstine 6y agoI agree. The only way that I wouldn't mind is if the employer incentivized wearing one for the sake of detecting sickness early(which some claim is possible with Oura), and if the employer wasn't tracking the Oura ring at all. The employer otherwise has no business tracking my biometrics in and out of the workplace.
