He does sound a bit like an asshole, and like he has a chip on his shoulder. It does sound like he lacking in sensitivity to others experience him. If he was my personal friend, and he came to me about this, I'd suggest he work on that. I don't think any of this is fireable. Personally I have found that being more tolerant of people with... shall we say, strong personalities, has been worthwhile. And I bet he's not the only asshole at the times, and I bet in certain ways, they are better for it.
