I try to write it in "PHP style", meaning just a whole bunch of "my $someVariable = SomeFunction()", and as little as possible of "=~ /^#^$^&*&/ <> ;~;" It helps that I try to build and maintain two versions of the same codebase, so I tend to write in a language which is the lowest common denominator of PHP and Perl. I'm at a modest 14K lines now, and still find that I can find what I'm looking for with just a global text search...
