My oldest child is about to enter the Boston Public school system. Many of my peers think I’m crazy to want to send my kids to public school, but we really value community and equity. I don’t yet know what level of academic achievement my kids will achieve. But my choice what will I have, if the public schools cannot serve their needs. I’ll be forced to join growing trend of abandoning public schools for private and charter schools.
- seibelj 6y agoAlso parent of Boston kids. We will start in BPS but if it's bad we will go private school. What choice do we have as parents? Thank god we have money! The correct answer IMO is to give every parent a voucher, and then let the schools compete for students. Would quickly show which public schools are good, and allow poor people to afford private schools. But this opinion apparently makes me some sort of evil person, so what do I know.
