Tom Brady has broken many records because he's had a longer career than most other players. To call him a 10xer, you'd have to somehow show that he's 10x more productive per game. I don't know enough about football to know what that would look like, but maybe 10x as many completions per game as the average quarterback. I doubt you can show that.
Besides, competing against other people in a zero game is not the same as producing something in the marketplace. If we're playing sports, I only need to be slightly better than you to win most of the time.
- TheRealDunkirk 6y agoThe point is that he's "10x" versus other humans. I only pointed out that he's clearly outstanding IN THE NFL alone for effect. If you compare his season stats against the bottom-ranked QB, he's still in the 2x-5x range, depending on the stat. If you're going to claim a "well, akshually" on per-game stats, then compare him to everyone else who's "thing" is quarterbacking. He's certainly 10x versus European leagues, stadium football, college players, etc. Though I'm certain you can narrow the scope of this metaphor enough to declare it invalid. I think we're talking about 2 different definitions of "10x." You're arguing that "10x" is literally defined by, say, LOC output. I'm saying "10x" is defined by total EFFECT. Did Michelangelo create the Sistine Chapel's ceiling because he could paint 10x _faster_ than other contractors? No, but you could have hired 1000 other people to do that job, and not come up with a work of art that has endured and inspired for hundreds of years. He is a "10x" painter because his work is _infinitely_ better than I could have ever done, both in term of content, AND execution. That's the sort of thing I'm trying to explain and extrapolate from. Take one or two steps down from that kind of talent, and those kind of people are all around us, by the law of large numbers, if nothing else.
