Previous studies were already zeroing in on the cytoskeleton (made of microtubules) as the likely place where slime molds stored their memories:

The break through here is that they've found the memories are encapsulated in the diameter of the microtubules: “Past feeding events are embedded in the hierarchy of tube diameters, specifically in the arrangement of thick and thin tubes in the network.”
