“We need access to your contacts in order for you to choose people to invite” is the message shown when you click on the invite feature.
I found it just straight up hostile given that there is no technical reason for needing my contacts to send an invite.
It soured my view of Clubhouse enough that I uninstalled it.
- theklr 6y agoDitto. The fact it does and continues to harass for access is deeply disturbing
- guilhas 6y agoAll chat apps ask permission for your contacts upfront. I don't like it, but I don't understand why single out this one?
- consumer451 6y agoWait a sec, are you telling me that all the power players on Clubhouse have shared their contacts with Clubhouse? If they did, maybe I need to lower my privacy guards? I’m confused.
- panda88888 6y agoThey probably did what I did — a burner phone with only the contacts they want clubhouse to see.

I have an android phone just for testing various apps, but I am not convinced that busy execs would allocate time and effort to that, but they do have assistants I suppose. Would love to know the data on this.
