3D Printed Bikini
- danssig 15y agoWhat a horrible photo. He's about 2 stops too hot.
- danssig 15y agoI guess people like not being able to make anything out because the picture is overexposed?
- rflrob 15y agoI wish they had more closeups of the material. How does it fit together? Is it like chain mail, but made from plastic?
- haspoken 15y agoThey have a very good description at: http://www.continuuminum.com/post/6255702581/n12-technical-description http://www.continuuminum.com/post/6255702581/n12-technical-d...
- burgerbrain 15y agoThere is something disturbingly wrong with how that font is rendering in Firefox 4. Completely unreadable.
- JonnieCache 15y agoLooks fine on FF4/win7 here.
- thristian 15y agoPreferences → Content → Fonts & Colors → Advanced → Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above Untick that box, set the Firefox defaults to something attractive like Droid Sans, and rejoice at how readable the Web becomes.
- aerique 15y agoThird thing I do after a fresh FF install! While you're at it play with "Minimum font size" as well if small fonts have ever bothered you.
- ars 15y agoTurn off the stylesheet and it's readable again, and you don't have to change any persistent settings. View → Page Style → No Style
- thristian 15y agoTurning off the stylesheet on every page as I browse the web would be a hassle; much better to change a setting once and never have to worry about it again. About the only pages I've found that aren't improved by enforcing a sensible font-choice are pages designed to showcase CSS3 font embedding - and those are pretty rare. I do wish browsers would have a per-host "allow custom fonts" setting, alongside the tradition per-host "allow images" and "allow cookies" settings. With the potential security implications of downloadable fonts, it seems only sensible - but nobody seems interested in implementing such a thing. :(
- ori_b 15y agoTurning off the settings persistently, and you don't have to turn off stylesheets ever again. And pages suddenly start respecting your preferences!
- shrikant 15y agoI regret that I have but one upvote to give - thank you for saving my Internet.
- imurray 15y agoI do this, but warn that it sometimes leads to sites breaking: text spilling out of boxes or getting obscured by running under other elements. Web-designers: please make your sites robust to people picking their own fonts, and also robust to users enforcing a minimum font size!
- ComputerGuru 15y agoNot just Firefox. For a "design" company, they sure have no idea what pretty looks like!
- citricsquid 15y agoThis is pretty, it's just not functional.
- shib71 15y agoThe light grey on white is not helpful either.
- dqminh 15y agoif you have Chrome, install Google Font Previewer, choose Droid Sans
- norova 15y agoI started picking at my LCD when I read the word "D.Dress" I thought the period between the D's was a speck of grime. >_>
- spullara 15y agoClick the Reader button. One of the best features of Safari :)
- deathwarmedover 15y agoWoman in bikini on HN / Comment only on the link's typography
- Raphael 15y agoMust be for Mac. OS X makes all text bold.
- ugh 15y agoNope. It looks horrible in Safari. It actually looks better in IE9 since Windows traditionally employs much more aggressive anti-aliasing and hinting (something that’s smaller than one pixel or between pixels simply gets bumped up to one pixel and forced onto the pixel grid). The font would be alright if our screens had twice or so the pixel density they have today but fonts with features much smaller than one pixel just don’t look good.
- eswat 15y agoRaleway is such a thin typeface that it pretty much renders horribly as text on any browser. Bad choice for body text…

- geuis 15y agoPlease get rid of that Railway font. Its awful and impossible to read.
- archivator 15y agoI cannot imagine the Internet without Readable ( http://readable.tastefulwords.com/ http://readable.tastefulwords.com/ ). It's like Readability but not slow. Oh, and customizable!
- jmckib 15y agoYou can still find the old version of Readability if you google around. For example, http://www.tobez.org/download/readability.html http://www.tobez.org/download/readability.html
- assemble 15y agoThank you! I've been looking for something else ever since Readbility switched to their newer, heavier, slower version.
- thomasgerbe 15y agoIt's a fashion website. Aesthetics (and brand) are usually prioritized over functionality.
- roel_v 15y agoI was going to order one to give away just to see what it looks like, but damn, 250$ %( Is that all markup or is it really just that expensive to print these things?
- nickpinkston 15y agoIt's just expensive... We wish it were cheaper, by this is about as cheap as 3D printing gets.
- adamtulinius 15y agoIs it just me, or does the bikini seem to fit the model rather poorly?
- madesroches 15y agoHow difficult would it be to adjust the model from a 3D scan of the person and therefore always have a perfect fit? For instance, using this kind of techno : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rhXC3TWZwg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rhXC3TWZwg (disclaimer - I'm a cofounder of VLAM)
- klbarry 15y agoI occasionally get to work with Natalia Allen of Design Futurist, and I know she's currently working on something similar to this in it's early stages.
- trooon 15y agoLove it. Anyone know how the material responds to sustained heat? I'm thinking 4 - 5 hours in 80 - 95 degree weather. Pretty standard in places like Miami, FL, Puerto Rico, etc..
- patrickgzill 15y agoSammich not included [/fark] ...
