I use VLC specifically so I can "cast" video to my TV. It handles everything I throw at it, and is a good player, but until I bought the chromecast dongle I played all my media on my PC via xine and even now my muscle-memory is xine-centric.

How do you cast in VLC? Is it Chromecast or WiDi?

  It's a chromecast, so I just right-click on a playing video and select "Playback | Renderer | My Device".
