But this article does get the headline for the piece I found most interesting. 16% of Gen Z identifying as LGBTQ is super bizarre to me. Mostly bisexual is even more foreign sounding. As a millenial it doesn't resonate with my experience. I would say I know 2x more gay/lesbian identifying people than bisexual identifying people. This suggests it should be more like 5x the otherway around.
- jfengel 6y agoI wonder if you have some friends that you think of as straight but who think of themselves as bi. Since there are so many more straight people, most bi people will end up with somebody opposite gendered, simply because there are more available. You'd have to know them for a while, or pretty well, to find out that they're bi just from observation. There's also a certain amount of biphobia: both straight and gay people often reject bi people -- homophobia by straight people, and distrust by gay people. Some of your bi friends may be hiding it. These are just guesses, but it does roughly match my observations of my Gen Z friends, which may be a matter of geography or my social group or whatnot. I can say that the 16% figure doesn't surprise me, either -- and I suspect it will climb as more and more people think of it as safe to publicly identify.
