My Tastemaker service helps you to discover new music every day
I love the Spotify recommendations, but they mostly recommend me the same music I am already listening to. Because of this I did build [Tastemaker](https://tastemaker.cc) a web service that analyses your Spotify taste and recommends music you would normally not listen to.
At the moment there are three available playlists you can subscribe to which are then recalculated every night (4 am - CET, sorry Americans for you it is in the late evening):
* [Newcomers](https://tastemaker.cc/newcomers) Analyses your taste and recommends you unknown musicians. I did find quite some new german Indie artists with less than 100 listeners per month with it
* [ProducerPower](https://tastemaker.cc/producerpower) Finds out the producers of your favorite songs and recommends you other songs they worked on. The producers form the sound quite a lot of a song
* [Tastebreaker](https://tastemaker.cc/tastebreaker) Checks your taste and recommends you songs from genres you normally don't listen to This playlists showed me some awesome Russian Pop songs
Thank you folks for reading until here and maybe also trying my service. Please be patient as it is still in an early phase and I have now clue if the server is strong enough for a lot of users from Reddit. (Until now it is me and some friends from uni using it)
All the best from Berlin!
p.S. To subscribe to a playlist click the "Get it on Spotify"-Button, login to your Spotify and allow the access. (Yes I know it requires quite some privileges, but without that it can not gather your taste)
p.p.S. I know it requires quite some privileges, but otherwise it can not gather your taste. If you just want to tip your toe into the water you can checkout [the public playlists](https://tastemaker.cc/public) as all ProducerPower playlists are public

- __ryan__ 6y agoLove the idea, love the landing page. Looks excellent and has a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing this mature. Long term, I'd love to be able to somehow get suggestions for a specific genre or language of music. I'm all for discovering music from other cultures, but I would _love_ a service that helped me discover unknown American or English-language hip-hop or hip-hop-adjacent artists, if that makes sense.
- l1am0 6y agoHey Ryan, there is some sort of that already :D I generated some more wide playlists by genre and saved it into the public tastemaker profile: https://tastemaker.cc/public https://tastemaker.cc/public Maybe you find something nice there. I a working on also bringing this public playlists to the landing page :)
- samesense 6y agoproducerpower doesn't work for me
- l1am0 6y agoWhat does not work? Is there an error or just no playlist in Spotify? Please be aware that tastemaker gets a lot better after one day, as than your full taste is loaded. At the moment of registration only a few info is loaded from your profile as otherwise the setup would take >10 minutes.
- IndySun 6y agoI'm skeptical that taste in art is even a thing that can pinpointed, music descriptions are especially broad and vague sometimes, but let's see if you've cracked it. I would like to be able to receive music with specific features I'm looking for. Can the user specify, such as male, female, band, instruments, bpm, energy, key, duration, or are suggestions based on feel, genre, or perhaps similar lists finding similar listee's? Only one way for us to find out.
- l1am0 6y agoHey IndySun, at the moment these configuration options are not available in tastemaker as they involve quite some frontend work (as you might have figured from the website that is not my strength) And to be 100% honest I am not planing to add a in-depth filtering system in the next 3 month as there are already so many other things on my backlog. But I added it as feature request :) Hope the other playlist that are less configurable are cracking your taste :P
- IndySun 6y agoThank you. It is no easy task finding music to specifications. I should add I am looking for someone else. So we have to fogs to fly through, their description, and my description of their description. In this case would you recommend creating a playlist of known liked tracks and let processes work from that list? Or is that (obviously) implied?!
- CinematicStudio 6y agoI think you wanted to place this in Show HN?
- l1am0 6y agoAlready did a Show HN a week ago and did not want to spam there. So that is why I kept it as normal post :)
