How is the x86 performance on say windows and linux?

  Do you mean the emulation performance on M1? In my experience Windows XP is “usable” and Windows 7 feels like a 10 year old desktop running with a spinning drive.

  Linux arm64/Windows 10 ARM should be near native, minus graphics acceleration. x86 will be about as slow as you would expect with QEMU. Pretty slow. There is no hardware assisted virtualization for x86 on ARM.
