Ask HN: How does Zappier, Pabble, Integrately etc. work?

I'm wondering how do they create so many integrations really fast? I'm looking to build a platform that will require multiple companies to integrate with me but in their own way. I do not want to re create the wheel. I know I have to have an API myself, but are they all following some sort of standard? Thanks
