Dude you got lucky but not in the way you think you did. You found this kid that had a rough life and that led you to bond with her. That could be something good, but you bonded with her in a way that's entirely wrong for an adult to do with a vulnerable minor. You got lucky in that you got that warning about yourself to try and change a dangerous behavior. You don't think of yourself as a predator for what you were doing but that's what it makes you. You may mean no harm but you will cause it if you keep down this road. Look into this critically and seek help instead of blathering about puberty.
