Big Tech “Deplatforming” Becomes Ever More Audacious
- forgotmypw17 6y ago> There is an important prospective silver lining in this situation, which is that the tech giants, by trying to use their dominance in a historical moment to enforce political orthodoxy, are inevitably hastening the decline of that dominance. I see it this way too. Once the trust is lost, it is virtually impossible to regain. It may be impossible or inconvenient for many to switch away from an untrustworthy platform right away, but once they lose trust, they become open to a more to a better alternative, which is bound to come along sooner or later. I think it is like a pressure build-up that is virtually invisible until it reaches critical mass if you're not looking for it. Already today, I know many "normal", apolitical people who are looking for a way out of Facebook.
