Where I live (Bavaria), in the last two years public lawns didn't get mowed any more and now grow a beautiful variety of wild flowers and are a great place for bees and other insects. Also, some part of the farmed ground around the village has been dedicated to growing flowers. Sometimes it is very easy to at least compensate a bit the damage done.
