This very release features a new mode [0] with reduced memory consumption. It probably still gets undercut by Gogs/Gitea, but it may be enough to run GitLab on a cheaper VPS tier than before.

- ksec 6y agoI think this is aiming at 2GB Memory Tier. For majority of VPS that means they could move from $20/month to $10/month. The problem is most popular Cloud/VPS ( DO, Linode, Vultr, UpCloud ) this tier gets you 1 vCPU only. Not sure how well this will work. Will have to test this. Or as others have mentioned, just use Gitlab.com
