Flexibility. “Too many” is debatable: most organizations wind up settling on a subset of the idioms that Ruby provides, and some of the more esoteric constructs see infrequent use anywhere. There has been, however, discussion about the need to clean up some of the lesser-used language feature, but obviously doing so carries risks.
