- DanBC 6y agoSo, abortions for anyone who wants one, right? Birth control for anyone who needs it? Trans people allowed to participate in sports? Stop pretending the right has no interest in controlling people's lives.

- lotsofpulp 6y agoI can’t imagine the reasoning one must go through to want another person to suffer as much as possible at the end of their life.
- Balgair 6y agoMy Catholic dogma may be out of date, but I'd suppose it goes as such: Euthanasia is de-facto suicide, and suicide is a mortal sin. Such sins may damn a soul to eternal punishment in Hell. Suffering at such intensity for eternity is much worse than the suffering at the end of one's life. QED, euthanasia is bad. I'm certain that I'm butchering this. Also, to be clear, I am NOT advocating one way or the other on this reasoning, just giving what I can remember about the reasoning. Again, not my reasoning or advocation. If anyone with a better understanding of the reasoning would comment, that would be great! Thanks.
- thaufeki 6y agoAs always, the CCC is at your disposal: https://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s2c2a5.htm https://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/p3s... (yuck, needs a UI makeover) The crux of it is that suicide rejects the gift of life "Everyone is responsible for his life before God who has given it to him. It is God who remains the sovereign Master of life. We are obliged to accept life gratefully and preserve it for his honor and the salvation of our souls. We are stewards, not owners, of the life God has entrusted to us. It is not ours to dispose of."
- lotsofpulp 6y agoThat’s great, and no one is telling Catholics they can’t suffer if they want to. The problem is Catholics are telling others to suffer. Ironically, in the US, it’s under the banner of the “small government” and “freedom” party.
- draw_down 6y agoNot really, everybody just has a different idea of what speech should be curtailed. When a group is in power they curtail what they don’t like. Used to be the flag burners and Dixie Chicks on the outs, now it’s Alex Jones. The important point is, no group when in power ever says “you know, maybe we should knock this off.” They only ever get that idea when they’re not in power anymore.
