Over and over again I hear from friends who work at companies that chose exciting technology that a major benefit is that it makes it easy to hire talented engineers who are exceptionally good, because that’s who’s interested in learning the exciting tech—and for startups this can mean being able to afford a top-notch engineer when they otherwise might not.
And over and over again I hear from companies that use boring tech that it’s extremely hard to hire top people and so they hire junior people and hope to turn them into senior people.
