From the article: Several Michael Mina restaurants, a Dominique Crenn restaurant, an expensive coffee shop or two, a dim sum place, and overpriced Filipino tacos are all in jeopardy.
- waynesonfire 6y agoSeems expected since demand is down. As a consequence, restaurants near the residential neighborhoods will see new lunch buisness.
- vmception 6y agoFood trucks started showing up at my apartment building and negotiated a schedule Some businesses will figure it out, new ones will replace the ones that don’t I dont really bother with the restuarant industry articles as theyre mostly based on nostalgia “will this slight (or major) change kill the restuarant industry!?!?” well, no, just the ones you were used to and better capitalized ones will take their place. these were barely viable during the best market in history its obvious what will happen.
- babesh 6y agoSan Francisco’s population more than doubled during the working day. Those people are no longer going into the City. Restaurants and other businesses downtown and in the SOMA are not going to be able to replace that business. You can’t really live outside SF and order from restaurants there. Most of those restaurants will have to move if they can. That is sure to be very costly. I wonder what happens if the restaurants break leases. The to go restaurants in residential neighborhoods outside SF are actually doing well. One hole in the wall restaurant we frequent can’t handle the additional business and got rid of the 3 entree deal because it was so popular. The sit down restaurants are not doing that well but hopefully that will change with the end of COVID-19.
- vmception 6y agoYeah you’re right, some neighborhoods never recover. There are plenty of examples in the mid-atlantic region and San Francisco has all the same variables with an odd topping of denial. Eventually it becomes economical for some enterpriser or prideful local to offer a restuarant.
