Rust tops bioinformatics micro-benchmark
- eesmith 6y agoThe fastest program is in C, c.002.rawio, but it reads 32K at a time rather than a nebulous "line" - as the benchmark authors point out. If it read 4096 bytes at a time, which is the max fgets() size for the fastest C program, would that be considered a fair comparison? In my own attempts at high-performance work, I find it best to ignore the concept of lines and switch to block reads, with some state information to figure out what you are. Which is what c.002.rawio does. It's not as easy to follow, agreed, but it is faster.
