Off topic, but personally I enjoy written blogs to vlogs, since you can then easily skim through and see if there is any real content. I'd love read the tldr

- chronial 6y agoSame here, but you can just skip through the video and look at the slides. There's not that many and they summarize his points quite succinctly.
- hkt 6y agoDoes that put it into the category of "didn't need to be a vlog" or should I watch anyway?
- pantalaimon 6y agotl;dw: - rms and esr are ousted - no community events due to COVID - IBM bought Red Hat - More companies are contributing to Linux than ever - Google is developing Fuchsia - Other OSes didn't last forever either Yea, there is really not much to it.
- chewxy 6y agoHis argument on Fuschia is worth listening to tho. But the rest, yeah, pretty meh
- pantalaimon 6y agoFuschia may be able to run Linux apps now, but Linux still has all the driver support. It will take years to re-create all that.
- ognarb 6y agoAnd because the libux kernels are gpl, they can't even take a look at the linux implementation of the drivers when implementing fuchsia drivers.
- dmitriid 6y agoIt really doesn't matter. Google is aiming Fuchsia at Android and Chromecast. The two biggest components of "Linux has won". Google is in for the long game.
- twic 6y agoI listened for five and a half minutes before he said anything of any substance. When the substance arrived it was rather thin. This would have been far better for me as a blog post.
- guerrilla 6y agoIt would be nice if we actually had a rule to add a tl;dw to videos over 5 minutes on HN. This was 6 minutes of rambling before he said anything meaningful.
