Any time I read the terms "western/western world", I just replace it with white people, and it works the exact same. It's interesting to me that we've come up with such a euphemism, because the raw definition of those terms make no sense whatsoever. Perhaps it is because I'm a Trinidadian living in Canada, so I've experienced both sides of the coin wrt. this terminology.
