- rektide 6y agoweirdly resonant but different to the 'child soldier who became a commander' story a day ago https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26185287 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26185287
- chordalkeyboard 6y agoHorrific.
- walrus01 6y agoA few years back Al Jazeera English did a documentary on a large brothel-town in Bangladesh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFSCdWaH9Kg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFSCdWaH9Kg no matter what you may think of Al Jazeera, the documentary seems authentic, I sure can't discern any pro or anti Qatar perspective in it.
- xwdv 6y agoThey threw her to the wolves and she came out leading a pack, wow.
- DoreenMichele 6y agoThe title is terrible. It completely misrepresents the essence of the story. She ran away to the brothel to escape being married off and raped yet again. She didn't know what it was. (I mean she didn't understand that this village of women was a brothel or what that meant.) Then she became a human rights activist for the many women trapped therein who were themselves either victims of trafficking or there to escape poverty or abuse. And as bad as the brothel is, the article indicates it's less bad than being a streetwalker. The sex workers in the brothel are at less risk of violence. Edit: Thank you, dang, for updating the title to something better.
