"have to?" No you don't have to study for job interviews. Maybe if you are coming out of college, but you really shouldn't be studying for the interviews. You should know most of it.
But I'm guessing there are other jobs it there that all technical questions that require people to study up for before the interview.
- username90 6y agoROI for studying interviews is enormous. If you care about salary per hour of work then spending some work studying is the best way to spend your time. Like lets say I take a year off to study interviews to get into Google and double my salary. Then I work at Google for 4 years. Compare that to working at Median Co for 5 years. In one case I get 5 base years of salary, the other I get 8. So ROI of that year of studying was 3 years of salary, and just keeps on giving. Now most don't need anywhere close to one year since they already know the basics, so the math is more like study 1 week -> get 200 weeks of extra salary, or about $400k. $400k for a weeks worth of work is ridiculously good payoff, which is why software engineers feel they "have to" study.
