I hate mining, I love my (old-ish) Nvidia GPU, and what this will do for the availability of cards and reliability of cards on the second-hand market is great.
But, FUCK this. Nvidia just removed a feature from a product customers paid for, and then sold it back to them in a new product. This is like if Apple disabled Wifi on old iPhones to force you to buy a new one.
It doesn't matter whether the reasoning behind this particular decision is something you agree with, a company should not be allowed to get away with doing something like this.
I hope a class action lawsuit comes out of this and Nvidia loses big, because a world where a company can do this by adding sufficient spin to the decision, is terrible for consumers.
- bcatanzaro 6y agoThis isn’t true. No one has bought an RTX 3060. It is going to be released next week. Nothing is happening to products people already bought.
- lxgr 6y ago> Nvidia just removed a feature from a product customers paid for Isn't the 3060 a new product?
- lajamerr 6y agoNo one has bought this product yet. It's not out till February 25th. So Nvidia isn't removing/nerfing a feature that someone paid for. This isn't like Sony removing Linux on the fat PS3 post launch.
