For example, my last interview round with Google included an email "Google Technical Interview Prep!" It's about 4 pages of things to study and have effectively memorized before the interview. Similar prep material is given for Facebook and Amazon. If you don't expect it, then make that clear to everyone around you, especially your interviewers
