So we'll have 3-5 months of lockdowns because we haggled for 30 Euro, which would be 18B to vaccinate the whole EU. The losses for the economy will be way higher than this... :/
- raverbashing 6y agoPeople are implying the haggling was connected to the delay, but it wasn't necessarily. As an example the UK contract with AZ had the same limitations as the EU one (this just came yesterday) https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/17/europe/uk-astrazeneca-vaccine-contract-details-intl/index.html https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/17/europe/uk-astrazeneca-vaccine... Production and deployment ramp-ups contributed more to the issue (approval delay didn't help, surely!). Per absolute number of vaccines deployed the EU is behind the US and China. https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=2021-02-17..latest&country=USA~ISR~GBR~ARE~EuropeanUnion~BRA~CHN~IDN~BGD~RUS~MEX~CHL®ion=World&vaccinationsMetric=true&interval=total&smoothing=0&pickerMetric=population&pickerSort=desc https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToS... Profit yes, but paying that much for something that had not proven itself yet, no way. It wouldn't be 18B, it would be 48B (2 doses per person for all inhabitants - though ok maybe you don't need to vaccinate children)
