I've lived in places with local Co-op's for broadband and phone service (in Kansas) it was some of the best service I've ever had and cheaper too. They only did this because the larger companies were ignoring them and not giving proper service since it was a smaller community. In short, banning these is bullshit it should rather be encouraged.
- artificialLimbs 6y agoYes. I live in Arkansas, am on co-op owned fiber. It is by far the most stable, fastest, and fair priced service I've ever had. I can call down to the shop any day and get a call back from a network admin within an hour. They provide TV and phone here too. The other option is AT&T (MAYBE 6mbit) dsl.
- beauzero 6y agoYes. My mother lives in Montana on an Indian reservation. 60 miles from a population center greater than 50k. She has better broadband options than I do and I live 40 minutes outside of Atlanta and had to file an FCC complaint for ATT to hook up DSL at my home. ...her CLEC/co-op is still in existence because it was too small to be a valuable acquisition during WorldCom's flameout.
