Scala 3.0.0-RC1 – first release candidate is here
- markeibes 6y agoCongratulations to everybody involved! Not my language anymore but glad to see it getting a little better than before!
- amir734jj 6y agoIf you are in academia (like me, PhD in compilers), you are stuck with it unless you go with Haskell route. Any small improvement to Scala is very appreciated.
- chrisseaton 6y agoI don't think Scala and Haskell are the only two languages in academic compiler work. Try research with LLVM, Graal, Racket, for example if you want to work with something else. Those are all popular as well.
- johnnycerberus 6y agoCheck Graal ecosystem or Racket (if you are into programming language theory more than compilers).
- pjmlp 6y agoNot sure how much Scala 3.0 will actually matter in the industry, but it is nice to see it finally happening.
- gazarullz 6y agowhy would you think it won’t matter?
- pjmlp 6y agoBecause platforms languages are the ones that matter most, as Java evolves, while it will never be like Scala, it will be good enough for the large majority that used Scala as better Java. Just check Google trends for all JVM languages.
- barry27 6y agoJava will never catch up to Scala though. If Scala 3 has all the power of previous Scala but a lower barrier to entry then it could take market share from Java. I say that mostly out of optimism I suppose. Scala is awesome.
