Japan's ruling party invites more women to meetings, as long as they don't talk
- mimikatz 6y agoPigs and Chickens meeting standard taken to outrage bait?
- MilnerRoute 6y agoThis Wikipedia page explains the meaning of the "Pigs and Chickens" meeting standard. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chicken_and_the_Pig https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chicken_and_the_Pig "Outrage bait" is an editorial comment.
- Pfhreak 6y agoThat's not what this is. The former Prime Minister recently said that allowing women to talk in meetings made them last too long. The women invited to these meetings are allowed to have opinions about the discussion, just not share those opinions at the meeting itself. That's very different than "we invited the TPM to stand-up, on the condition they just listen."
- MilnerRoute 6y agoIt was that statement -- by an 83-year-old former prime minister -- which triggered the controversy, according to CNBC. "Yoshiro Mori, the head of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic organizing committee, resigned last week after derogatory comments about women speaking too much at meetings and making them too long triggered backlash at home and abroad." https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/17/japans-ruling-party-wants-more-women-at-meetings-unless-they-talk.html https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/17/japans-ruling-party-wants-mo...
- wodenokoto 6y agoIs pigs and chicken meeting a set phrase? What does it mean?

- CyberRabbi 6y agoHonest question... am I the only one who thinks this article isn’t appropriate for HN?
- MilnerRoute 6y agoI've asked myself how many Hacker News readers are female. Maybe a related question is: would that make a difference to its appropriateness here?
- CyberRabbi 6y agoStill don’t think it is. This article is about Japanese politics. I’m sure there are some hackers out there that have an interest in this but in the general case will just cause a flame war amongst bike shedders who have no strong interest in Japanese politics.
- MilnerRoute 6y agoI think the main focus of the article is not "Japanese politics."
- krapp 6y agoAnd even if it were, we've had articles about Japanese politics here before, and no one has complained.
- tpush 6y agoGiven the usual type of responses to these kind of articles, we probably need a whole lot more of them.
- isitdopamine 6y agoMore articles supporting your viewpoint until your viewpoint is agreed by all? This is incredibly patronizing. Can’t you think for a second that people can have a different opinion, and that doesn’t need to be somehow corrected/educated out, but just understood? Viewpoint diversity matters. Not everyone believes in feminism, very decent people believe in different gender roles for men and women.
- justaguy88 6y agoIs this tech news?

- optimalsolver 6y agoI can see several items currently on the front page that have nothing to do with tech. What's wrong with this one?
- krapp 6y agoIt has girl cooties.
