So they put 3 guys who seem to never had done such a thing in charge of a $1B transaction, that requires special parameters, and they didn't even checked if their assumptions were right?
And here I am, tearing out my hair, sleepless nights, wondering if using iodash instead of pure JS incurs in needless overhead for people I don't know from anywhere visiting my website.
(probably someone got a nice check out of it though)
- sn41 6y agoIt was not a 1B transaction. It was supposed to be a 7.8M transaction. Not trivial, I admit. But from what is written in the article, it seems that even if they had transacted just 1$, they might have ended up in the same situation of losing 900M. With 1$, there might not have even been the added layer of 3 people checking the transaction.
- hnedeotes 6y agoYeah, that UI looks like it could perhaps use some improvement, it's a bit on the 80's side (which isn't a bad thing in itself, I mean, I like my emacs, but I only use keyboard there unless I forget the bindings, which is not totally everyday). Maybe they can re-write it in rust and add like help tooltips and some confirmation popups? Like "You're about to do this X with Y to W. Confirm?"
- denvercoder6 6y agoA warning saying that X amount would go to Y. X2 would go to Y2 might have prevented this.
