I worked for the forest service right after college, which meant spending a lot of time outside of urban areas. I remember always noticing how impoverished Seattle seemed when I went into town. Then, after a few weeks in Seattle, I adjusted and didn't notice how few species there were. I really wish more people had a sense of what we are losing, what we will never be able to give to our children, because it is gone forever.
