US fast food workers hold Black History Month strikes to demand $15 an hour
- cafard 6y agoDuring the summer of high school when I worked some weeks at McDonalds, the minimum wage was $1.60. The only prices that I remember from those days were that of the standard burger and the standard fries, both 20 cents, and that of a gallon of gasoline, which varied between about 28 and about 30 cents per gallon. At the moment, a gallon of gasoline in my neighborhood costs about $2.33, so one could call that eight times the price of my McDonalds summer, the equivalent of almost $13 back then. The burgers and fries are more in line with the increase in minimum wage.
