Is Satoshi Sitting on One of the Largest Personal Fortunes on the Planet?
- moonbug 6y agono, because it is unrealisable.
- matthewsinclair 6y agoI think you’re right. I must admit, the article isn’t one of the best I’ve seen on this topic.
- opendomain 6y agocan you clarify? Do you mean Satoshi could not extract some of the bitcoins?
- SlipperySlope 6y agoSatoshi created Bitcoin blocks on a few laptops for the year he was developing the Bitcoin protocol. He took the network live at that point instead of recreating the genesis block from scratch. During the year long development period, Satoshi evidently did not retain the private keys for those million BTC. I say evidently because like every other early adopter, Satoshi would have cashed in when Bitcoin exceeded a dollar in price after that first year after release on Slashdot.
- Panino 6y ago> He's only about $10 billion shy of the Koch brothers Just want to note that one of the Koch brothers, David Koch, died in August 2019. Also, I think we should switch to referring to net-wealth (not net-worth). Net-wealth is accurate and humane, while net-worth is neither. The exactly 1 million bitcoins (sure is a perfectly round number, right?) referred to in the article probably weren't created with the intention of ever spending them. I assume that whoever/whatever Satoshi is, there are other Bitcoin addresses not publicly known, and those have probably been used over the years. What if Satoshi blew their "real" wallet when BTC was at $40? Crazy thought of the day.
