Good point. Totally agree. SVG would be nice way out but it is also hard to make accessible in comparison to pure html. Another example are badges. Even shields.io SVG badges are hard to make screen reader compatible (personally gave up on this some time ago). In the end inclusive design will make the web better for everyone beyond the short wow effects.
