Two reasons why I don't think this is a good idea:
1. Mixing different applications in one inbox would be a mess for a lot of people (e.g. your IM would drown out important work email)
2. Privacy - avoiding unique online identifiers when they're not needed is a good idea
- W00kasz 6y agoI solved 1 by using an alias of my email for reading (e.g.,myemail+reading@gmail.com), using that to subscribe to newsletters, create a filter in Gmail to have anything sent to that email skip my inbox and apply a "reading" label, then use the multiple inboxes feature in Gmail to display a distinct section for emails sent to that alias. It works really well for me and keeps newsletters from cluttering things. I also have a Gmail label widget on my android phone that opens up my Gmail app straight to the reading label. It all works like a charm!
