I'm using claws-mail in a way that defaults to plaintext email only. I can load the html mail, but rarely do so. When a mail does not show the content in plaintext I usually throw it away. The reason is pragmatic, by the way. HTML mails take longer to read, and I really don't need some crappy graphics or web design when scanning through my inbox.
