This is not a problem particular to Stack Overflow and it's one of my biggest problems with internet culture today. Somehow, at some point in the distant internet past, we all decided culturally that self promotion is bad. Why? I don't know. Maybe someone else can answer.
But the consequence is that sites like Reddit now are rife with stolen unattributed content, while original content is largely frowned upon - Reddit's own guildelines[0] suggest you should be posting a >9:1 ratio of other people's content to your own.
Frankly this is something the newer generation gets right. Zoomers "shamelessly" plug their own original creations - post their soundclouds under their own viral tweets, link to their own onlyfans in their bios, plug their etsy accounts on insta. If you're a creator (a tiny fraction of internet users qualify) you god damn deserve to promote your own stuff!
