If you plan on getting hired to do it D would be a pretty bad bet.
- mhh__ 6y agoI just got hired for more than my parents earn off the back of an email to the right people and I'm 20 - D is small but we have a lot of money per capita as far as I can tell.
- johnisgood 6y agoNice! Which country?
- mhh__ 6y agoUK - Beyond that I won't comment!
- johnisgood 6y agoOh that is more than enough, thank you! What I am curious about is if I could get a job there without having education. Here in Eastern Europe they still want a CS degree in many places, showing projects, that are on, say, GitHub is not enough. You simply do not even get to the interviewing part.
- mhh__ 6y agoProving you are worth talking to is the hard bit, and even then the recruiters don't know waffle from insight. Its a fact of life, I think: We are the people who really care about technology, the people we work for usually don't. If you are a student we (D) regularly fund students to work on projects for us. There's more money than you'd think in small communities - don't badger people, but don't be afraid to ask.
- johnisgood 6y agoI find coding fun, and I have been coding since I was 10. I did not go to university because I had family problems, and financial problems, along with mental health problems (depression, anxiety, panic attacks and the like). They usually do not care about this though. I wish they would at least check out my projects, and let me talk about them or something. I would probably work harder and better than some of their employees. I am currently working on a game and I do not sleep for 2-3 days. I am pretty dedicated when I am interested.
- crazypython 6y agoSymmetry Investments hires D programmers every year and is continuously adding new developers.
- qaq 6y agovs say AWS is very heavily invested in Rust
- mhh__ 6y agoRust remains one of the most loved and least used languages in the SO surveys IIRC - ignoring the meme-aspect of that trend - the job market is still swamped by C++ shops. Realistically programming languages take time to adopt culturally but they aren't that difficult
- throwawaygulf 6y agoThere are more Rust developers are Amazon that there are D developers in total.
- Jweb_Guru 6y agoRust is not one of the least-used languages in SO surveys.
