Some workloads work better in native code.
- pjmlp 6y agoC# also compiles to native code, just like D, csc isn't the only option.
- mastrsushi 6y agoIf you're referring to .NET native, I dont think it's considered industry reliable.
- pjmlp 6y agoNot only, there are others to chose from, and regarding .NET Native is reliable enough to build an whole business on top of it, Windows Store, upcoming Windows 10X, and the late Windows Phone definitely did not fail due to it.
- mastrsushi 6y agoThen why is the rest of the C# world using traditional CLR?
- pjmlp 6y agoFor the same reason plenty of people here are completely unaware of what Java and .NET are fully capable of. Many just learn the minimum to deliver something.
- p0nce 6y agoBut then you can't do reflection? Besides I'm in native space I never seen any native C#.
- pjmlp 6y agoCome to Windows, iOS and Unity game development for consoles.
- p0nce 6y agoDon't get me wrong I'm sure native C# is plenty fast and within acceptable speed range. It it were me, native code would be used at a last resort strategy. But perusing https://benchmarksgame-team.pages.debian.net/ https://benchmarksgame-team.pages.debian.net/ is still seems C# takes much more memory? It's strange as such benchmark don't expose much change between .net and .net aot

- p0nce 6y agoLooks like measuring the same thing twice.
- igouy 6y agoOnce with /usr/bin/dotnet build -c Release --no-restore -r ubuntu-x64 and once with /usr/bin/dotnet publish -c Release --no-restore -r ubuntu-x64 --no-self-contained What should the second do for aot ?
